The real main character here is Lahore, Pakistan: heat, hierarchy, and corruption in the 90s. The plot is straightforward, but it kept me hooked because of how well the class-culture and friction are written. The dissonance between the top and bottom rungs of society is hard to miss. If you like novels where a place drives the story (like The White Tiger or Maximum City), you’ll want to read this.
