Spoon Sports Group A Honda Civic E-AT Hatch

In 1985, Tatsuru Ichishima built Spoon’s first race car while the company was still called “Tatsuru Ichishima Company.”
Honda and Mugen supported the privateer project with parts in exchange for racing data.
The car was a Honda Civic E-AT hatch and became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, even before Honda’s factory team.
That Civic became the basis of Spoon Sports’ racing concept and philosophy.
Spoon’s build focused on FIA Group A construction, extensive weight reduction, and reinforcement to a target weight of 900 kg.
The car used a 1.6L DOHC ZC engine with PGM-FI.
Spoon’s race version made 230 hp at 9,800 rpm, compared with 130 hp in the stock Civic Si.
The car was fitted with close-ratio gears and cockpit-adjustable brake and engine settings.
Spoon used OEM-based components such as Nissin brakes and Showa suspension.
The historic Civic remained in running condition and was shown in the United States in 2013, underscoring Spoon’s racing heritage.
