If you want an unvarnished, close-in account of how the Afghanistan “project” ended, this is a brutal read in the best way. It reads like a case study and an autopsy put together, but it never feels abstract. A good book for understanding how institutions behave when they’ve run out of good options but keep pretending they have control.
